Privacy Policy
Boaterian LLC ("Boaterian," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Boaterian mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information We Collect

We do not collect precise location data. We do not track you across third-party apps or websites for advertising purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the Service — store and process your surveys, generate valuations and PDF reports, and sync data across your devices.
- To authenticate you — manage sign-in via Clerk (Apple, Google, or email).
- To improve the Service — analyze crash and error reports to diagnose and fix issues.
- To communicate with you — send transactional emails (account notices, password resets).
- To comply with law — respond to legal requests and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. AI Processing
Boaterian uses Anthropic's Claude models to assist with vessel classification, data extraction, and narrative generation. Survey content you submit for AI-assisted valuation is sent to Anthropic's API. Anthropic's data handling is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy. We do not use your survey content to train AI models without your explicit consent.
4. Device Permissions
The App may request the following device permissions. You can deny or revoke them in your device settings; some features may not work without the relevant permission.
- Camera and photos — to capture or attach vessel images and scan HIN or serial numbers.
- Microphone and speech recognition — to dictate survey findings by voice. Audio is processed for on-device speech-to-text; we do not store raw audio on our servers. Only the transcribed text you choose to save is stored as part of your survey data.
5. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the following service providers to operate the Service:
- Clerk — authentication and user management
- Microsoft Azure — cloud infrastructure, file storage, and database hosting
- Anthropic — AI-assisted valuation and report generation
- PowerBoat Guide / BUC — boat valuation reference data lookups
- Expo / EAS — mobile app build and delivery
- Sentry — crash and error monitoring. When enabled, crash reports may include your user ID and email address to help us diagnose issues affecting your account.
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of Boaterian, our users, or the public.
6. Data Retention and Account Deletion
We retain your data as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (Account tab → Delete Account), your Clerk account is permanently deleted and you are signed out immediately. Survey data and files stored on our servers may remain until separately removed. To request deletion of server-held survey data, email mklappdesign@gmail.com. We process deletion requests within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
7. Security
We use TLS encryption in transit and at-rest encryption for stored data on Azure. No method of transmission is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for professionals aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided us data and we will delete it promptly.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email mklappdesign@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
10. International Transfers
Our servers are in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your data will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
